About Hannah Ma

Hi, I'm Hannah.

I'm a counsellor based in Hong Kong, and I completed my Master of Counselling at Monash University.

Hannah walking past an open doorway

Before becoming a counsellor, I spent nearly a decade working with young people in Hong Kong through education and youth development. That work taught me to meet people where they actually are. Most of us are somewhere between healing and flourishing. Some people come carrying something heavy and just need to be heard. Some come because life looks fine but feels flat, and they want more. Many are both at once. My training in counselling and positive psychology means I can walk with you through either, and move between them as you need.

I've lived in China, Hong Kong and the US, so if you feel caught between cultures or expectations, there's room for that here too.

Why Table Matters?

A table is where people stay. It's where slow, honest conversations happen. Some of the hardest and most healing moments of my own life happened around a table, with someone I never expected to sit across from. I want this to be a place where you can bring the hardest thing without having to sort it out first.

My faith is part of why I do this work. If that matters to you, we can bring it into our conversations. If it doesn't, it never has to be part of them.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Psalm 23:5

How I work

I work with individuals and couples. I draw on a few different counselling approaches, and I let what helps you lead the way. With couples, I'm trained in the Gottman Method, and I always make sure joint sessions are safe before we begin.

In our time together, you can expect

  • A calm, non-judgemental space where you can share what is really going on
  • Someone who listens carefully and takes you seriously
  • Time to untangle your thoughts and feelings at your own pace
  • Honest reflection, offered gently, when it might help you see something new

Table Matters isn't an emergency service, and I don't prescribe medication. If someone else would serve you better, I'll tell you honestly and help you find them.

Whenever you feel ready, you're welcome to pull up a chair for a free first conversation. There's no need to have the right words, and there is no obligation to continue.
