How it works
You can start small.
It's okay to feel unsure about counselling. Here is what to expect, one step at a time.
A first conversation
It's free and takes about 30 minutes on video. You can share a little about what has brought you here, ask any questions, and we can both see whether it feels like a good fit. There is no obligation to continue.
Take your time to decide
If you would like to continue, I'll send a short form before we begin.
Meeting regularly
Sessions are 50 minutes, usually weekly or fortnightly at first. You are always free to pause or stop.

Questions you might have
What does the first conversation look like?
It's a free 30-minute video call. You tell me a little about what's brought you here, ask me anything you like, and we both see whether it feels like a good fit. It's not a counselling session, and there's no pressure to continue.
What if I've never done counselling, or don't know what to say?
That's completely normal, and most people don't know where to start. You don't need to prepare anything. You can begin with whatever feels most present, and we'll take it from there together.
How much does it cost?
Sessions are 50 minutes and HK$700 each. Your first conversation is free. I'll share payment and cancellation details before we start.
Is what I say confidential?
Yes. What you share stays between us. The exceptions are rare and I'll explain them clearly before we begin: if someone's safety is at serious risk, or if the law requires me to share information. I'd always try to talk to you first.
How is this different from talking to a friend?
A good friend loves you, which means they also have opinions, history and feelings about your situation. Here, the space is entirely yours. I'm trained to listen without needing anything from you, and to help you see patterns that are hard to see from inside.
Do I need to be religious?
Not at all. My own faith is part of why I do this work, but it's never something you need to share. If you'd like it to be part of our conversations, it can be. If not, it won't come up unless you bring it.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on what you're bringing. Some people find clarity in a handful of sessions, while others stay longer to work through something deeper. We'll check in regularly, and you're in control of the pace.
Does online counselling work? What do I need?
For most people, yes. All you need is a private space, a stable internet connection and a device with a camera. Many people say they open up more easily from a place where they feel at home.
Can I stop or switch anytime?
Yes. You are never obliged to continue. If it doesn't feel like the right fit, please let me know, and I'll gladly help you find someone who is.
Can my partner and I come together?
Yes. Before we meet together, I speak with each of you individually, so we can be sure that joint sessions will be safe and helpful for you both.
Are you a psychologist or psychiatrist?
I'm a counsellor. I don't diagnose or prescribe medication. If you'd benefit from a psychiatrist, psychologist or your doctor, I'll say so and help you find the right person. Counselling is a great place to make sense of what you're feeling and build a way forward.
What if I'm in crisis?
Table Matters isn't an emergency service. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, please call 999. You can also reach Samaritans Hong Kong on 2896 0000 (24 hours) or Suicide Prevention Services on 2382 0000.
There's a seat at the table for you
Whenever you feel ready, you're welcome to pull up a chair for a free first conversation. There's no need to have the right words, and there is no obligation to continue.
