What I help with · When family is the hard part

When family is the hard part.

Strain with a parent, hurt that is hard to set down, or expectations you never chose.

Perhaps a conversation with a parent keeps replaying in your mind. Perhaps family gatherings leave you feeling like a younger version of yourself. Or perhaps something happened in your family long ago, and you are still living with it.

Family can be where we feel most loved and most hurt, often at the same time. It is also where many of us learned the unspoken rules we still live by, sometimes without ever choosing them. These feelings can be especially hard to talk about when family loyalty and respect matter deeply to you.

What we might gently explore

  • The patterns you grew up with, and which ones you would like to keep
  • Hurt that is hard to forgive, or hard to set down
  • Ways to express what you need while still honouring the relationship
  • Finding your own way to relate to family, whether that means growing closer or setting kinder boundaries

You don't need to know in advance what you want the relationship to look like. We can find that out together, at your pace.

There's a seat at the table for you

Whenever you feel ready, you're welcome to pull up a chair for a free first conversation. There's no need to have the right words, and there is no obligation to continue.
